Mission

Make public pianos findable

Public pianos turn streets, parks, plazas, and concourses into joyful places to play. They invite anyone passing by — players, listeners, strangers — to stop, sit down, and make music with the city. World Pianos exists to make those pianos findable.

Vision

One trustworthy map, everywhere

A single, honest directory of every public piano on the planet — kept current, kept transparent about whether each piano is actually out and playable, and open to anyone looking to play, listen, or contribute.

Our story

It began with a simple observation: public pianos were appearing in cities all over the world, but there was no central place to find them. Musicians stumbled on them by chance, missing countless opportunities to connect and create. The instruments existed; the map didn't.

We reached out to piano enthusiasts, street performers, and public-art organizations. The response was immediate. People wanted somewhere to share what they were finding — and connect with others doing the same.

World Pianos launches with the Sing for Hope pianos placed across New York City — and is built to grow, one verified piano at a time, as players add and confirm public pianos wherever they find them.

What we stand for

Invite

Everyone is welcome — players, listeners, the curious. Every piano on the map is free and open. No ticket, no reservation, no reason needed to sit down and play.

Inspire

We share stories, sessions, and discoveries from the global public-piano community. New players, seasoned musicians, and listeners alike find each other here.

Connect

We document moments when a public piano turned strangers into friends and a city block into a gathering. That human connection is the heart of everything we do.

Powered by

Sing for Hope

World Pianos is created and supported by Sing for Hope, the nonprofit that has placed hundreds of artist-decorated pianos in public spaces around the world and reached millions of people through programs that bring music and art into everyday life. Sing for Hope's piano work directly inspired this directory — and continues to power it.

Found a public piano we haven't mapped yet? The directory is only as current as the community that keeps it alive.
